Fraser says this will allow over 500,000 international students already in Canada to potentially work more hours.<\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-de81f12 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"de81f12\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #222222; font-family: Jost;\">From November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023, international students who are in Canada and have off-campus work authorization on their study permit will be allowed to work over 20 hours per week off-campus while class is in session.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 1.2em 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Jost; vertical-align: baseline; color: #222222;\">This temporary measure will also apply to foreign nationals who have already submitted a\u00a0study permit\u00a0application as of today. Earlier this morning, Statistics Canada reported that Canada\u2019s unemployment rate fell to 5.2 percent in September, down from 5.4 percent in August.<\/span><\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7d82255 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7d82255\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #222222; font-family: Jost;\">At present, international students who apply to study in an eligible Canadian educational program may get authorized to\u00a0work off-campus\u00a0during their studies for up to 20 hours per week. This limit is lifted during scheduled breaks such as the summer and winter holidays. This policy allows international students to support themselves financially while also seeking to ensure that they remain focused on completing their studies rather than be focused on working in Canada. For instance, IRCC relied significantly on international graduates to achieve its target of\u00a0landing over 405,000 new immigrants\u00a0in 2021, breaking Canada\u2019s record for new landed immigrants in a year. IRCC did this by inviting and landing large numbers of Canadian Experience Class candidates. In addition, it introduced a time-limited Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR2PR) program in 2021 that enabled some 90,000 temporary residents to apply for immigration.<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 1.2em 0px; border: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Jost; vertical-align: baseline; color: #222222;\">Minister Fraser\u00a0also has a\u00a0mandate\u00a0from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to identify additional ways for international students and temporary foreign workers to gain permanent residence via Express Entry.
